Name of the Event: Vruksh Bhandara (Saplings distribution program)

Purpose of the Activity: To ensure people’s participation in Tree Plantation

Purpose of the Activity: The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to observe bird species, develop awareness about biodiversity, enjoy hiking and encourage sustainable practices in natural settings.

Report of the Activity :

           A sapling distribution activity (Vruksh Bhandara) was conducted on Republic Day, Monday, 26th January 2026 in association with Hariyali (An NGO) Dombivli Vighag. The activity was aimed at ensuring people’s participation in environmental protection. In all 112 saplings including money plants, Tagar, Gulbakshi, lemongrass, Mango Spiral Flag, Lily, Hibiscus, Green Paradise (Had Jod), and palm etc. were distributed among the locals.

Purpose of the Activity: To involve students in sapling plantations in the Campus.

Activity: A 'Workshop on Sapling plantation was conducted on 12/07/2025 to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and promote a greener campus environment. This workshop was conducted under the guidance of members of the Hariyali Foundation which helped and provided students with knowledge and hands-on learning experience that brought out the creative, fun side of students. The participants were divided into groups and assigned specific areas within the campus for planting saplings. Types of saplings i.e Adulsa, Mini Tagar, Hadi jod, Tulsi, Exora, Croton, Nirgudi, Mango, Anant, Kardar, Miniature Exora, Jaswant were planted in the college campus. 8 indigenous plants were planted. Around 600 cuttings/saplings were planted. Hariyali members Mr Satish Joshi, Ms Jayalakshmi Chekkala, Ms Pratima Bhatt, Mr Sudhir Lad, Mr. Kude, Ms Pratima Bhat and Mr Amrutkar guided the students for the activity.

Outcome: Students gained practical knowledge about the significance of tree plantation and the techniques involved in ensuring the saplings' survival. A sense of accomplishment, team work and pride was filled in students as they were contributing to make the college campus greener.

Name of the Event: Visit to Karnala Bird Sanctuary

Purpose of the Activity: The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to observe bird species, develop awareness about biodiversity, enjoy hiking and encourage sustainable practices in natural settings.

Activity: The SIA College of Higher Education, Dombivli (East), Green Club organized a nature visit to Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Panvel on Saturday, 2nd August 2025. Students observed various bird species like Sunbirds, Kingfisher, Hornbill ,White Peacock and later trekked to Karnala Fort, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Shilpa Malani, Mr. Ganesh More and Dr. Hasitkumar Nagariya. A seed sowing activity was also conducted as part of the Green Club’s environmental initiative.

Outcome: This visit allowed students to deepen their understanding of biodiversity and the importance of preserving natural habitats. It encouraged teamwork and physical activity through trekking, while also providing an opportunity to engage in eco-friendly actions such as seed sowing. The hands-on experience complemented classroom learning and helped build environmental consciousness among students.

Name of the Event: Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol Making (with शादु माटी)

Purpose of the Activity: The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness about the environmental impact of Ganpati celebrations and encourage eco-friendly alternatives.

Activity: Students gained hands-on experience in creating Eco-friendly Ganesh idols, fostering creativity and environmental consciousness.

Outcome: Ms.Aarti Chaudhary (Corporate Trainer) conducted the workshop. She informed the students about Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, which is a non-biodegradable material which endangers marine life and the health of our water bodies. Also the dyes and glitter on POP idols are harmful. Eco-friendly ganesh idol made up of Shadu Maati does not pollute natural water sources. She taught the participants how to make Ganapati Idol from Shadu Maati by live demonstration. She created a group of 4-5 participants and trained them to create Ganapati Idol. All participants created an idol by using their creativity and had a joyful learning session. This workshop inspired students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives and make a positive impact on the environment. Students learned about the importance of using natural and biodegradable materials, reducing pollution and promoting sustainability.

Purpose of the Activity:
1. To encourage innovation and creativity
2. To increase awareness of environmental issues
3. To cultivate useful abilities
4. To promote the conservation of resources
5. To promote environmentally conscious attitudes

Activity: The Green club, in association with Introduction to Environment (A compulsory subject for First Year B. Com, B. Com (B and I), B. Com (BAF), B. Com (MS), B.A.M.M.C. and B.Sc. (IT) students, has scheduled a Best out of Waste Exhibition cum Competition on September 16, 2025, at 10.00 am, in response to the need to enhance first-year students’ innovation and creativity. The goal of this exhibition cum competition was to raise awareness among students on environmental issues.

Outcome:

1. Enhanced Environmental Awareness: Visitors and participants learn more about sustainable waste management, recycling and reuse.
2. Innovation and Creativity: The inventiveness and problem-solving abilities of people are demonstrated by the inventive and useful things made from waste material.
3. Development of Skills: Participants gain practical experience in creating, crafting and presenting.
4. Positive Behavioural Change: Community members and students grow more aware of the need to reduce waste and incorporate eco-friendly habits into their daily routine.
5. Community Sensitization: By raising awareness among a wider audience, the exhibition encourages more responsible waste management in homes and communities.

Report of the Activity: The "Best Out of Waste" exhibition cum competition was arranged by the Green Club of the college in association with Introduction to Environmental (A compulsory course for first-year students). Members of the Green club and the teaching faculty of Introduction to Environment planned this event to instil the value of reusing items among students to create lovely crafts. On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, they gave a presentation because, in their own words, "Recycling things is like magic that turns ordinary things into extraordinary." Getting the most innovative and beautiful things out of materials we no longer need is known as "getting the best out of waste." Students created a wall piece and a showpiece by using waste plastic material. They also prepared usable items, including a pen stand, a sand clock, toys and a keyboard by using the waste material. It was humorous to observe the students' inventiveness. Our future leaders were encouraged to think creatively by participating in the exhibition cum competition.

Name of the Event: Essay Writing Competition

Organizing Agency: Green Club

Purpose of the Activity:
The objective of the essay writing competition was to encourage students to express their thoughts creatively on environmental and social issues, while enhancing their critical thinking and writing skills. The activity also aimed to spread awareness about eco-friendly practices and the role of youth in promoting sustainability.

Activity: Students were invited to write essays on pre-decided themes related to the environment and sustainable living. The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their writing skills, originality of ideas, and depth of knowledge.

Outcome:

The event received an enthusiastic response from students. Participants expressed innovative ideas, practical solutions, and thought-provoking perspectives on environmental issues. The competition helped students build confidence in written communication, and also created a sense of responsibility towards nature and society.

Name of the Event: Electronic Waste (e-waste) collection Drive Report

Purpose of the Activity:
This drive aims to serve the community by:

  • Planning a project as an outreach involving students collecting e-waste from various areas
  • Sensitizing people towards the harmful effects of disposing of electronic waste indiscriminately

Activity: Students participated in this community outreach programme and collected e-waste from their neighbours, friends, relatives and family. After collecting e-waste, students brought collected e-waste at the e-waste collection point located at the ground floor where a large drop box was kept to accumulate all the e-waste items collected. Students brought e-waste discarded items like mobile phones, batteries, set up box, Wi-Fi routers, calculators, CD’s, adapters, C.P.U, monitor, Laptops, extension cords, headphones, earphones, electric tools, remote, mouse, keyboard, and so on. E-waste from college was also accumulated and sent for recyling.

Outcome:

Through this community outreach program, students became aware and shared with the community about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the unorganised sector and educated them about alternate methods of disposing of their e-waste. Students also made a handmade banner of cotton cloth and painted it. They had spread awareness to other students about the harm effects of flex banner to the environment, whereas cotton cloth banners are environment friendly. Students also decorated the e-waste collection box with colours. Handmade banner made them work together in groups and promotion of e-waste collection drive in the college developed leadership qualities among themselves and sensitivity towards the environment.
E- Incarnation Recycling Pvt. Ltd. recycling company was invited to collect and dispose off e-waste in an eco-friendly manner and provide us with a destruction certificate.

In April 2021-22 we collected 370 kgs of e-waste. In April 2022-23 e-waste collection was 762 kgs. In April 2023-24 we collected and recycled 382 kgs of e-waste. Whereas in April 2025 we collected 405 kgs. In September 2025 we collected and recycled 344 kgs. This drive generated revenue of ₹16,391/- which was deposited in the college fund.
