About Department

In this information age, technology plays a vital role. IT subjects can connect various disciplines and provide solutions and services in diversified sectors. The unique feature of our IT department is we follow experiential learning method where in the learners are encouraged to work with real time projects, case studies based on practical sessions which challenges their intellectual knowledge and application skills.

The journey of the Department started in the year 2010 with an undergraduate Programme – B.Sc. (IT) and expanded its wings by initiating the post graduate Programme – M.Sc. (IT) in the year 2018.

  • Novatech an Intercollegiate event conducted every year organizes various competitions like debugging, logo making, ppt presentations, digital poster making and other innovative events to sharpen learner’s technical talents
  • Students do event management as well as participate in these events which showcases their multidimensional knowledge and work skill.
  • Live projects are displayed to students which marks as inspiration for others.

To make the learners industry ready the college took an initiative to start an incubation center named SIA-Techlink

  • The center is formed with distinct intention to nourish and nurture young minds.
  • To provide an opportunity to learners to work in live projects where they perform significant tasks like requirement gathering, designing, coding, implementation, testing etc.
  • They are not only taught but also trained to utilize their technical skills to implement and develop various in house applications.
  • Continuous guidance is given by teachers who monitor the students in the various phases of software development and resolve their hesitations.
  • This way students are able to identify their area of interest and are able to up skill themselves as per the latest technology used in the industry.

Departmental Activities

Application of Tableau in Business Intelligence

The Department organised online guest lecture on “Application of Tableau in Business Intelligence” on 12th February 2022.
The event was organised on Microsoft Teams

The Resource Person Mr. Vignesh Suresh focused on topics related to visualization for data analytics using Tableau. Various visualization techniques were explained to students from business intelligence perspective.

The event was attended by 36 participants from class TYB.Sc.IT and M.Sc.IT

Guest Lecture on Data Science and Big Data Opportunities

The Department of Information Technology & Mathematics organised online guest lecture on ” Data Science and Big Data Opportunities “ in association with Techlamp Solutions LLP on 25th January 2022.

The event was organised on Microsoft Teams.

Resource Persons of the session were Mr. Shrikant D. and Mr. Vishal S.

Resource person spoke on the difference between data science and big data. He also derived the perception behind learning the data science as an emerging IT sector to get employment. The speaker has shared the prominent industries which have requirements for data scientist. Mr. Vishal guided about the basic skills required to excel in this industry.

The event was attended by 98 participants from FYB.Sc.IT, SYB.Sc.IT, TYB.Sc.IT and M.Sc.IT students.

Guest Lecture on Basics of Android Development - Series I

The Department organised online guest lecture on “Basics of Android Development – Series I “ on 3rd September 2021.

The event was organised on Microsoft Teams.

Resource Person Ms. Pradnya Kumavat Covered the topics such as:

Guest Lecture on Basics of Android Development - Series II

The Department of Information Technology & Mathematics organised online guest lecture on “Basics of Android Development – Series II “ on 22nd January 2022.

The event was organised on Microsoft Teams during 11.30 am to 1.30 pm.

Intercollegiate TechFest

Tech-Know club, the departmental club of ‘The Department of Information Technology and Mathematics’ has organised an Intercollegiate TechFest “Novatech 2021-22” on 22nd December 2021.

In this Techfest following activities were conducted in online/offline mode

The purpose of the event was to identify creative and artistic minds, to judge the logical, critical thinking and programming capabilities of the participants as well as to make fun and enjoyment.

Inauguration of the event took place in Room No 405.

The event started with welcoming of Chief Guest Dr. Padmaja Arvind, Vice Principal Mrs. Booma Halpeth, Convenor (B.Sc. I.T.) Mrs. Nandini Kadam and Convenor (M.Sc.I.T.) Mrs. S. Saisree.

The event proceeded with lamp lightening and Saraswati Vandana and thereafter speeches of the dignitaries and Event Head Mr. Chintan Rathod.

The event was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Padmaja Arvind with an activity (Mario game).

Website Designing

The competition was held in online mode during 11:00 to 1:00 pm. This event got total 7 registrations.

The event was headed by Ms. Anvisha Sawant and Ms. Pooja Malusare.

Mr. Samar Singh and Mr. Utkarsh Kamble Judged the event and declared Mr. Siddhesh Ghadi (Kirti college, Dadar) student as a winner.

Instagram Poster Making

The competition was held in online mode during 1:00 to 3:00 pm. This event got total 6 registrations.

The event was headed by Mr. Chetan Kamuni and Ms. Heena Jethva

Mr. Samar Singh and Mr. Utkarsh Kamble Judged the event and declared Mr. Aniket Vichare (S.I.A. College, Dombivli) student as a winner.

Debugging

The competition was held in online mode during 1:00 to 3:00 pm. This event got total 12 registrations.

The event was headed by Mr. Abijith Nadar and Ms. Sakshi Rajbhar

Mr. Samar Singh and Mr. Utkarsh Kamble Judged the event and declared Ms. Pranavi Mohite (K.V.Pendhar College, Dombivli ) as a Winner (1st Prize) and Mr. Sahil Sapre (Model College, Dombivli) as winner (2nd Prize)

 

BGMI

The competition was held in online mode during 12:00 to 3:00 pm. This event got total 32 teams registrations. In each team 4 members were there. Total 128 candidates enjoyed this event.

The event was headed by Mr. Rutambh Salunkhe and Mr. Mihir Surve.

The winner of this game was Aryam Wanjare and team (Ideal College, Kalyan). Cash prize of Rs. 1000/- was disbursed to the team.

The second winner of the game was Mohit Parmar and team (S.I.A. College, Dombivli) Cash Prize of Rs. 200/- was disbursed to the team.

Mr. Niraj Vanjare (Ideal College, Kalyan) has secured the position “Top Fragger” and has been honoured with cash prize of Rs 400/-.

Treasure Hunt

The competition was held in offline mode during 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Only S.I.A. College students were allowed for the event. This event got total 18 teams registrations. In each team 4/5 members were there. Total 77 candidates enjoyed this event.

The event was headed by Mr. Chetan Kamuni and Ms. Heena Jethva.

The winner of the event was Ms. Jigyasa Jaiswal and team. Cash prize of Rs 1000/ and certificates to the team members were distributed.

BSC(IT) 2023-24 Activities

NovaTech 2023 - An InterCollegiate Fest

Event Name: NovaTech 2023

Date : 16th December 2023

Venue : Auditorium & IT Labs

Time : 10.00 AM – 5.00 PM

The Department of Information Technology along with Techknow Club organized Novatech2023 – an Intercollegiate TechFest on 16th December 2023. The events organized were Logo making, Debugging, IT Games, Web Designing.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. K.V. Ranganathan President, The SIA Association along with Mrs. Ranjana Mhalgi, Assistant Prof., Mrs. S. Sai Sree MSc IT Co-ordinator, Mrs. Sreekala Nair, Event Organizer. Mr. Ranganathan motivated the students to thrive for excellence and always develop the curiosity to learn new technology.

Students from various colleges participated actively in all the events. There were a total of 271 students who were the part of the event and made this event a grand success.

A Virtual reality game was organized for the students which turned out to be a lot of fun and enjoyment.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks.

Short Term course on ASP.NET

Name of the Event : Short Term course on ASP.NET

The “Department of Information Technology and Mathematics” arranged a short term course of 30 hours on
ASP.NET for Third year students. Faculty In charge of the course was Mrs. Sandhya Pandey and Mrs. Rashmi Chindarkar.
The course was conducted during 27th June 2022 to 8th July 2022 in Computer Laboratory 3 from
12:30 to 3:30 pm. 20 students registered for the course, out of which Male :18, Female : 2) took the benefit of this course.
On the last day of course Mini Project was assigned to them which they were able to do successfully.

Short term course on PHP MYSQL

Event Name: Short term course on PHP MYSQL

The Department of Information Technology and Mathematics arranged short term course of 30 hours on”PHP MySQL” for Second year and Third year students. Faculty In charge of the course was Mrs. Nandini Kadam.
The course was conducted during 27 th June 2022 to 8 th July 2022 in computer Laboratory 2 (Commerce Lab) from 12:30 to 3:30 pm 14 students registered for the course, however 13 students(Male : 8, Female : 5) took the benefit of this course.
On the last day of course 50 Marks practical exam was conducted. Through this course student were able to design attractive, and dynamic websites.

Short term course on Internet of Things

Event Name: Short term course on Internet of Things

STC course was arranged for IT students of The Sia College of Higher Education Dombivli East .To develop their basic Internet of Things skills which will be helpful for academics and further studies in future. It was organised by I.T department of The Sia College of Higher Education Dombivli East from 27/6/22 to 7/7/22.It was conducted in IOT lab from 10.am. To 2.00 p.m. ,attendance was too good. It was 30 hours course in which students learn practical implementation of IOT as well as the installation of various software’s like Django, Node.js on Raspberry Pi board. The exam was conducted in the IOT lab. students executed the practical’s and installed the software.
Students were regularly attending the lecture and practicing the topics which ever were taught to them in lecture.

Short term course on Basic Computer Skills - For NSS volunteers

Event Name: Short term course on Basic Computer Skills – For NSS volunteers

The department of Information Technology and Mathematics initiated a short term course “Basic Computer Skills” for NSS volunteers of the S.I.A. College of Higher Education. The course was conducted during 23rd June 22 to 5th july 22.

The course was conducted in Lab 2 (Commerce Lab) during the above mentioned period between 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

All the NSS volunteers were regular during the course.
